Up until she’d realized she was gone, Lucy had refused to admit to herself that she missed him. She’d seen him around school on several occasions sine their initial meeting…but was always quick to hide herself until he was gone, for the simple fact that it was easier. Seeing him was hard enough, much less a few awkward words, her calling him a stalker again, him denying, her walking away…or him walking away, all depending on just how things went. And whenever she saw him it just made her miss him more and more…talking to him online was more than enough. She didn’t even want to do that, and yet the minute she saw that he was online, when she knew she should have gotten off, she ended up saying some variation of hello. But even that was awkward…and even that made her miss him…even if she was kind of bitchy to him, and fine, she was just being stubborn. Every part of her wanted what they had back…before the cheating…but lately she hadn’t been so sure that he was cheating in the first place. Wouldn’t he have admitted it by now? She’d even said that she’d be with him again if he admitted it…and he wouldn’t. He made no sense…of course she could understand why he would. After a few drinks, out with his brothers, probably with a stripper or something. He was a guy, she understood that, she really did…it had just hurt was all. And the first thing to do when you were hurt, in Lucy’s mind, was leave. And so it was pretty surprising that when he did the same thing…she was hurt. At first she honestly thought he was leaving because of her…and she was well aware that she shouldn’t have cared. But she did. And she’d missed him…really.
And now he was back…and he was only gone for a birthday, which she knew were big things in his family…and she was so happy, she didn’t even know why. But she did…it was because she still loved him, and wanted to be with him more than anything in the world. That was why she hadn’t been with anyone else since she left him…why sex with other people paled in comparison…why she kept bugging him about the dog they’d shared. Actually, that last one was more just because she’d really missed her dog, but whatever. Two out of three. She knew they needed to talk…she’d even told him they could talk once he got back…and she kind of had this big speech worked up, about how they could forget what happened and be like they used to be, and how much she loved him and she was sorry she let something so stupid get in the way, and that she was idiotic and had spent every day of the last six months missing him to death. And fine, maybe she’d slip in something about how no other than had been able to…satisfy her like he had, but only because she knew he was a horny Spanish bull and would appreciate such things. The only question was how to go about asking him to talk…just corner him at school and say it? Or plan some huge thing or ask him out to dinner or something? The latter would be completely corny, completely out of the question…and the former was just…no. She was just going to let things happen…if she happened to feel the urge to do it at school, fine. If she saw him on the street she’d run up to him and say it…she was going to be impulsive. It seemed like her best bet. Although if she didn’t get it all off her chest soon she was most likely going to explode.
Which was why she found herself walking through the park, probably dressed too heavily for August, but not really caring. Everyone else had on light jackets and she was dressed as though as any moment the snow was going to start falling…but she’d never been good with dealing with cold weather, snow, rain, any of that…so the fact that she’d lived in Maine, New York and now Oregon was probably slightly surprising, but whatever. The summer’s were nice…and they had the most interesting people…like Eduardo. Who was still running through her mind even as she walked through the park, hardly paying attention to her surroundings…until she heard barking, which made her snap back into reality on a sad note. Ringo. She missed her baby…both of them. Her eyes were automatically drawn to where she heard the mysterious barking…until she saw none other than her cute little fluffy dog…and Eduardo, her cute little semi-fluffy ex boyfriend. Which was really quite the coincidence…she couldn’t help but smile. She’d missed them both…she hadn’t seen Eduardo since their run-in - literally. For a moment she just watched them from a far (who’s the stalker now?) and then she walked right over, not even allowing herself a second thought as she stopped right in front of him. Looking at him her speech, well put together over the weekend was completely forgotten and her words just started pouring out. “Hi.” Well that was a creative way to begin. “I’ve been thinking. A lot. About you. And I miss you, and I love you, and I wish I never let anything get in between us and I just want us to be together again…with Ringo as our baby again…and you and me…again. And I’m sorry. And I love you.” She couldn’t help but blush, and shake her head. “I feel so stupid now…I’ll shut up. But that’s your surprise. If you want it. We can be together again. Okay, really shutting up now.”

Eduardo didn't think he would ever stop loving Lucy. Really, he highly doubted it. Even if he met a girl, liked her enough to date her...he still would always like Lucy more. It wasn't like she was his first love or anything, he had loved a few girls before her. They just...had had something more. Even though they had gotten off to...a weird start when they first began dating. All back in New York City. It had been a one night stand, something Eduardo really never did. And then a few days later she showed up at the school he taught Spanish at, as his teaching assistant. They flirted...more Lucy flirting than Eduardo...even though he did want to have sex with her again since she had been very good in bed. Despite his drunken mind he had remembered that. But it had taken about a month...and a bit of Lucy pestering and Eduardo denying to himself that he wanted a relationship with her until he finally gave in. And then their relationship started. And, God, it had been a good one. A great one. An amazing one. Their sex life...was amazing. And they just got along really well. Eventaully they bought an apartment together. Eduardo got her a dog for Christmas. And they talked about marriage. Eduardo was going to pop the question soon, he had had it all planned out. But then they broke up, and the love of his life left and he was stuck alone in New York, in their apartment, with just their little dog Ringo for company. But fast forward to now. They were both in Portland. Well, Eduardo had gone back to New York for a few days for his eldest brother and sisters birthday. She had seemed...scared when she found out he left. And Eduardo liked that...because that maybe meant she cared...just a bit for him, still. And they began talking online more when he was gone. He was pretty sure he might be....wearing her down. Finally convincing her that he was innocent, he hadn't cheated on her, he never would cheat on her. Eduardo was a good guy, really...he was. And he was pretty sure Lucy was beginning to see that again.
There were just...a lot of signs that she was beginning to think he was worthy of being taken back. The picture of them kissing. How she said she wouldn't mind seeing Ringo...and him. And she said she had a surprise for him. Which, Eduardo had not understood at first, but now he was pretty sure it meant...maybe she wanted to get back together with him. Or just have sex with him. Eduardo honestly would not mind the latter, though he would prefer a relationship. Yes, Eduardo had not had sex since Lucy left. Six months ago. It had been a long six months. A lonely six months that were basically only filled with his family, and Ringo. He loved his family and his dog, but he couldn't have sex with them. That would be incest. And beastility. And that would not be good. Or legal, he was pretty sure. But anyways, Eduardo...would definitely not object to having sex with Lucy, especially considering how great their sex life was. They hadn't been incredibly kinky...barely kinky really, but they had tried their fair share of positions and such. He knew that she hadn't had a boyfriend in their time apart, but he couldn't help but think about how many times she had had sex, since, he knew she had had sex too. She had told him. Right after he had told her he hadn't had sex, which had been kind of embarrassing. They really did not have secrets between each other, even though they weren't together. Well, besides the fact that Lucy wouldn't tell him what his little surprise was. Only that he would like it, and he would find out what it was soon. Eduardo was a very impatient person and hated waiting, and Lucy knew that from their time together in a relationship. It was kind of like she was torturing him...in way. And she probably realized that.
Eduado had been back in Portland for about a day. He had enjoyed seeing his family, even though he had only left them a few weeks ago. They were all close. Hell, his brothers and sisters had been reading over his shoulder basically every time he talked to Lucy online, his brothers telling him what to say, his sisers deciphering Lucy's messages. At first...it hadn't been that great. But by the last time they had talked before he left...the signs had been good. Fairly good. But Eduardo knew he had to wait for her to ask him to get back together. He had no idea when she would be ready, so she would have to initiate it all. But he had been sitting on his computer for far to long, waiting for her to come online. God, he was like a teenager. A teenage girl at that. So he decided to go for a walk in the park with Ringo. The park was obviously not as good as Central Park back in New York, but still, it was a park, and Eduardo liked parks. Especially in big cities. It let you get away from all the...hustle and bustle, as lame as that sounded. Today, it was a bit colder than usual, especially for late August. But Eduardo didn't notice it. He wasn't bothered by the cold for some reason, so he was still in just a t shirt and jeans. Plain and simple. Eduardo walked through the park, tugging lightly on Ringo's leash when he tried to bolt away and chase a squirrel. He was a feisty little dog, and Eduardo loved him. Even though in the past six months the dog had reminded him way too much of Lucy. And just then...as if it was magic...Lucy appeared in front of him. Eduardo blinked in surprise, but couldn't help but chuckle at her attire. Of course he would be wearing a winter coat, even though the weather did not call for winter coats. She just got cold easily. If they had been dating...Eduardo could warm her up. "Hola." He said, watching as Ringo sniffed at her feet and jumped up, attempting to almost get in Lucy's arms. Of course the little guy would remember his mom. Eduardo zoned back in on Lucy after watching the dog for a moment...blinking, once again, in surprise when he heard her little speech. So she wanted to...get back together with him. Honestly, was this for real? It couldn't be. This was his surprise...wow. And she loved him...still. Eduardo's face broke into a grin as he took a step closer to her. "So you know I never cheated on you, right?" He asked, chuckling again. Eduardo didn't wait for an answer. He couldn't. He was too impatient and wanted to kiss her, which is exactly what he did. And, God, did it feel good. Like...their first kiss when they first got together, about two years ago. Wow. Had it really been that long? It certainly didn't seem like it.

It was sad just how attached Lucy had been to her dog back when she’d had him…she brought him everywhere, really. There were a million of pictures with her with him…her baby, Ringo. She’d carried him everywhere, even snuck him into stores in her purse until he started barking and they asked her to leave. But what else was she supposed to do with him, she couldn’t really leave him in the car or anything like that, he was her baby. There was some law against leaving your baby in the car, was there not? It was pretty sad that one of the things she missed most about her relationship with Eduardo was their dog…her dog, god damn it, he’d bought it for her. She missed sitting on the couch and cuddling with him…while watching the dog show, because she was just that good of a mother. And of course there were other parts of their relationship that she missed…the sex being one. Sex with other guys, while it was decent, wasn’t quite as…pleasing as sex with him. Maybe it was because she hadn’t even had real, true feelings for a guy since then…or maybe it was even all in her mind. Admittedly she’d had a fair amount of sex since she left him…she wasn’t going to swear off it or anything. And the fact that he had surprised her…and only made her stop believing that he cheated on her. Why would someone who cheated on her go six months without sex, unless he just couldn’t get any? But of course she didn’t believe that…Eduardo was good looking, he was sweet, he was quiet…but it was because of that, that every girl would literally be all over him. It was because of that that she had been all over him, at least. And still was…lately. Since she decided to stop being such a stubborn bitch and at least give the guy a chance…not a chance to explain. He didn’t even need to explain, it was her fault, for overreacting, for not letting him explain, for leaving and forgetting her baby…and never even trying to keep in contact despite the fact that it wouldn’t be that hard. Even though she’d changed her number and moved out of the state she still had his…and fine, she’d called him a few times just because she’d missed his voice. But she was always drunk and always hung up right after…just like a pathetic teenage girl.
It wasn’t until this moment, in front of him, that Lucy considered the fact that maybe he’d said no. Okay, maybe there had been moments when they last spoke online, when she kept hinting and he showed no sort of recognition to her hints, that she’d thought maybe he was over her, or something along those lines. But now, after giving a ridiculous excuse for a speech, she was feeling idiotic, and couldn’t help but think about the possibility that he could say no. And of course there were a million reasons why he might turn her down…she’d kind of been a tease lately, throwing the pictures around, talking about secrets, but not telling him what was going on. And before that she’d just been a bitch, faking a boyfriend to try and make him jealous (which had worked, she was pretty sure), telling him she loved him…not love, loved, begging for her dog back, the list could go on and on. And the fact that she’d believed her friend over him…and still kind of did, deep down. No matter how many times he told her he hadn’t done it she’d always have some kind of fleeting doubt in mind, that maybe he had cheated on her, even if he hadn’t exactly meant to. She’d pretty much called him a stalker, called him creepy, hinted towards him wanting to leave…and when she did she told him to come back. No guys liked mixed messages, and lately Lucy was only giving off the likes. So why wouldn’t he say no? he said he loved her…but things all seemed different the last time they spoke. He hadn’t hinted towards a relationship, or begged her, or even seemed all that thrilled to talk to her. He’d questioned their kissing picture instead of just saying he liked it. And he hadn’t even asked to see her…and when she’d hinted towards seeing him, and her baby Ringo, he’d merely made some comment about how Ringo lived at his apartment so she’d obviously have to see him. There had been no flirting…he hadn’t even brought up their sex life like he had in the past. And he’d said that maybe it was time for him to move on…god, there were so many signs that he wanted nothing to do with her anymore. And why hadn’t she thought of any of this until she was standing in front of him like a fool? Oh, right, because she was stupid. She probably should have considered a change of profession to something that you didn’t need to be smart for. Like a stripper, or something, she’d be good at that.
She was so absorbed in thinking about this that she didn’t even notice her dog trying to get into her arms, or the fact that he didn’t seem like he was going to say no. Every part of her wanted to just leave and save herself the humiliation, but once again she couldn’t bring herself to. She just stood there feeling like an idiot, her cheeks flushed as she began to open her mouth to say that it was a joke or something. April fools! And instead she heard him say that he hadn’t cheated on her…and knew that she was just being completely paranoid about him saying no. Just as she was about to reply and say that she knew he hadn’t, even if she wasn’t all that sure…he kissed her. Before she even had a chance to open her mouth and speak she felt his on hers, which was the best feeling on earth. It had been so long….and it felt perfect. How could she have left him? She closed her eyes and tangled her fingers in his hair, kissing him slowly, like it was the last time she ever would…even though hopefully it wouldn’t be. They were together again, right? She pulled away for a moment, feeling the tingles on her lips, her hands quickly reaching down and holding his, a smile on her face. . “I know you didn‘t cheat on me.” She really did…she was about ninety percent sure. Which was enough for her by this point in time, really. She‘d had to live without him for far too long. “I’ve missed you.” she admitted, looking down at her little dog, her smile growing. “Let me see my baby.” She murmured, taking a small step away and bending over to pick up Ringo, kissing him on the top of the head, before looking back to Eduardo and smiling. “So we’re together again, right? Unless your way of letting someone down is kissing them first.”

When Eduardo and Lucy had been together the first time, had lived together, and had taken care of Ringo together, Eduardo had kind of laughed at how much Lucy treated the dog like a baby. But it wasn't like he never made fun of her. He was too nice for that. But when they had gone out and brought the dog with them, sticking him in her purse...well then he couldn't help but laugh at her. He had told her, time and time again, to just leave him at home, he would be fine. But Lucy always insisted in bringing him, so Ringo always got to come. Eduardo did happen to find it...cute though. Just a bit. All the things she did with Ringo showed she would be a good mom. She wouldn't even have sex if the dog had been in the room. Which, okay, admittedly might have been a little weird...but still. Eduardo thought Lucy would be a great mom. He didn't know about his parenting skills though. Sure, he always remembered to feed Ringo and talk him for walks but a baby was obviously ten times harder. And if they did...get serious again, which he was hoping they would, there could always be baby discussions...marriage discussions. Marriage seemed fine to Eduardo. But the baby part was a bit of a different story. He did want kids...eventually. Maybe not at twenty three, or twenty four...but eventually. His late twenties maybe. Besides, a baby would definitely ruin a sex life and...Eduardo kind of liked sex. Lucy had always called him a horny Spanish bull. Which, he kind of was. But when he was having sex with Lucy, who admittedly was quite good at sex, who wouldn't want to have sex a lot? And, Eduardo didn't mean to brag, but he was pretty good with the sex too. Which is why he hadn't had sex in the six months they were apart, he knew he wouldn't find a girl better than Lucy, and he still loved her, so sex with someone else would just be weird.
Eduardo hated mixed signals as much as the next guy. He was kind of easily confused enough as it is, and mixed signals just confused him more. Of course, over the past what...few weeks, Lucy had been throwing out more mixed signals than any other girl he had been interested in, combined. First she had said he was stalking her...and basically that he was the creepiest person ever and that she hated him. Then she got a little better. Even though she had pretended to have a boyfriend. Eduardo was ninety percent sure it was to make him jealous...which is definitely had. Then she got a little more friendly, though still teasing and sending him mixed signals. She kept telling him she loved him, but in a friendly way, which annoyed him to no end, and usually it took kind of a lot to annoy Eduardo. He was a fairly laid back, collected person...but Lucy had probably been able to tell that he had been getting annoyed with her. Eduardo had gotten a little snippy, as his mom would say. And then once he left Portland and went to New York for awhile, well, then things just got way to confusing. Lucy had kept telling him to come back, continued begging for Ringo. Even though she had left him behind in the first place. Really...it wasn't that hard to remember to grab a dog before walking out the door. And the little puppy had been running after her as she walked out the door...and so had Eduardo. But he didn't want to remember that day. It was definitely not a good day in his life. Maybe the worst. No. The worst was probably when his grandfather had died. Eduardo had been close to his grandfather. But anyways, Lucy. And her mixed signals. The last time they had talked had been the most confusing. Eduardo had been trying to act not as...desperate as he had been. And Lucy...well, Lucy had been acting like Eduardo. Their roles had been switched. It had been odd, and Eduardo had tried his hardest not to give in and agree with everything she was saying. Luckily, he had managed to do so...and thank god he hadn't convinced Lucy was uninterested, since, here she was...in front of him...making her little speech.
The thought that it was a possible joke didn't cross Eduardo's mind. He was too confident. He was too sure that Lucy really wanted him....that she had finally come to her senses. He knew they wouldn't pick up right where they left off, but they might move a little faster than the average couple, which he was fine with. Eduardo knew she probably wasn't completely convinced that he hadn't cheated on her. Girls were paranoid, he knew that. But in time he would make her believe...one hundred percent, that he was innocent. And then they would be perfect. Or, as close to perfect as a couple could be, since perfect was kind of impossible. But he would work damn hard to be the best boyfriend...ever. Okay, maybe not ever. But he would be a really good boyfriend. Eduardo had missed the feeling of his lips on hers, her hands in his hair. It was a good feeling. Nearly as good as sex. To him, the kiss was over all to soon. But that was okay...since they were together again...there would be plenty of kisses in the future. Since they were together. Again. Thank god. It had been six long, lonely months with out her. Eduardo smiled as she reached down and held onto his hand. He didn't say anything when she told him she believed him...just squeezed her hand with a smile. Eduardo didn't know if she was saying she missed him...or Ringo...or both. Probably both. "We've missed you too." He said, allowing Lucy to step back and pick up their dog. He chuckled as Ringo basically leaped up into her arms. "He remembers you..." Eduardo said quietly. Honestly, he was kind of surprised about that. Sure, Lucy had been Ringo's mom...but did dogs have that great of a memory? He didn't really know. Apparently they did. "No...we're together...definitely." Eduardo said, leaning in to kiss her on the forehead. "Right, Ringo? We're all together." He said to the dog, petting his head.
