Vienna stepped out of the school buildings, surprised at the color of the sky. It was much later than she had originally thought. Normally, the paranoid teen made sure to leave early enough to be back at the dorms before dark. For some reason, she had lost track of time. She sighed softly. Part of her considered calling a taxi or something, but she knew that would be stupid. It was only a few blocks after all. The sun was fading, the sky was darkening and Vienna was still outside – that was a first. Why had she started heading back to the dorms so late? She had no idea. The slender brunette walked along the pavement quickly, the heels of her boots clicking with every step. It was cold, she was cold. Normally, Vienna didn’t wear a heavy jacket because she was back in her dorm by a reasonable time. Her eyes drifted towards the sky. Before night. Night was uncertain and unsafe for Vienna, it made her that much more vulnerable. An open target, a weak girl, wandering around at night – this wasn’t her smartest idea. She clutched the school books in her hand, pulling them tighter to her body. Her normal, irrational fears were only amplified by the darkness, the being alone, the noises… Damn! She should have left earlier. Vienna’s breathing was shallow and quick, inaudible even to her. If there was someone approaching, she would hear it. Her eyes scanned the bushes, making sure there was no one around.
It got dark quick around here. Vienna would remember that for next time. Actually, there just wouldn’t be a next time. She tugged at her sweater, pulling the sleeves over her hands – it was also getting much darker. There was a slight breeze that was ruffling the leaves around her. The light hum sounded eerie, almost like in a scary movie before the girl got kidnapped. And she was that girl. Vienna sped up, her arms clenching the books and holding them to her body. One of the books was pressing against a bruise on her arm, causing Vienna to wince. The bruise brought back the memories she had tried to forget. The beatings from her father, her mother’s eventual murder. The teen’s throat became tight and moisture filled her eyes, clouding her vision. She attempted to fight them back, tried to be stronger that the pathetic, feeble girl she knew she was. Vienna shook her head, disgusted by herself. The moment of self-loathing had distracted her from her previous frightened state. The leaves ruffled again, and she sped up, the fastest she could go without breaking into a run. Her vision was still clouded from the tears that threatened to overflow. For one moment, everything was just dark and blurry, and then she could feel that one tear was streaming down her cheek. Her hand moved to wipe it away angrily, but in the process she dropped all of the books she was carrying. They hit the pavement with a loud thud. She tripped over the one book that had fallen close to her and dropped to the pavement. Vienna inhaled loudly, shocked by the impact. Her mind cleared quickly. “Shit, shit, shit…” She chanted to herself as she picked up the books sprawled around her.

*---tonight is the night,A N D I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT ALL MY LIFE, WAITING FOR YOU TO SHOW ?!-------------------------------------------------- [/size] After school, Ryan went back to his dorm to grab his pack of cigarettes and then hit the town. He had absolutely nothing to do that night and was so darn bored, which was surprising for him. He almost always had company around him, some sort of party, some date, even his brother. Pretty much anything to keep him occupied. A bored Ryan was never a good Ryan. When he ran out of ideas, he was at his most dangerous, the only things he could think to do were illegal. So what was he to do on this oh so uninteresting evening? He just decided to walk around until something came to him.
He grabbed his pack of Marlboro 100s and his room key then left. Walking on the street, he decided to take a stroll through the school campus figuring he might find some sort of fun there. But as soon as he got halfway in, he realized nothing interesting was going to show up. "Now why does this have to be so boring..." He mumbled under his breath. His brother was busy doing God knows what, Kashmere was busy doing that whipped boy most likely, and anyone else who usually accompanied his time he couldn't get ahold of. So, with nothing else to turn to, Ryan just chose to sit by a lone tree, light a cigarette, and wait for inspiration to strike.
Sitting and relaxing against a tree smoking a freshly lit cigarette, what could get better than this? Company, of course, someone to occupy his thoughts with, someone who would take his mind off of being in this hell hole. But as soon as he starting cursing the heavens, and Criyh of course, for getting him caught and sent here, he heard footsteps. Looking over with a slight smirk, he detected the faintest sound of a sniffle. A crying girl? Ryan was a secret softie, he hated seeing girls cry, wanted to hurt the people who made them cry to begin with. So, he figured this was a perfect way to stop his own boredom and make this girl stop crying and smile. That was his personal goal for the night.
The sight of her kneeled down picking up her books with tears in her eyes was almost a pathetic sight, he really did want to know what was wrong. Well, in a place like this what couldn't be wrong? Squatting down in front of her, he picked up a couple of her books and handed them to her. "Are you okay?" He asked with a small smile. Okay, a little part of him was pushing his flirty side, but he tried to hold it back. He just couldn't help it, it was his natural tone with girls. --------------------------------------------------

Vienna knew she looked weak and feeble, picking up her spilled books, tears in her eyes. She wasn't even sure why she was crying at the moment. Recalling bad memories usually didn't make her react in such a mournful nature. Maybe it was because she was frightened, frightened by the uncertainty of the dark. And then she fell. Well, tripped. That was more embarrassingly frustrating than anything. Vienna wiped her slender hands on her jeans, brushing off the dirt and pebbles. Her dark brown eyes scanned her exposed skin. No cuts, luckily. She shifted her weight, pushing up onto her knees. There was a slight painful burning sensation on her knee cap, either a developing bruise or small cut. It would only be another addition to the healing scars and bruises, concealed with make-up, that were on her arms and legs. There were still some recent bruises colouring her arms, but they were rarely ever visible. Soon enough, there would be no bruises because her father wasn't around. Vienna breathed a small sigh of relief. At least at this miserable school her father didn't know where she was, he wouldn't be able to find her easily - if he was looking. She wished that she could confirm that he wasn't looking for her, so she could stop living in constant fear of her father. But how could he not be looking for Vienna? She was the only person who knew he murdered his wife, Vienna's mother. She ran away, he didn't approve her absence or know about it in advance. So how could he not want to find her, keep her quiet?
She pushed back the sleeves of her sweater, too annoyed at herself to be cold, and twisted her torso to look behind her. Vienna stretched her slender body to grab the three books that were behind her. Today was the day she was given all of her textbooks and reading assignments, her first day of class began sometime next week. Vienna went to class, occasionally. In California her parents thought she went to class everyday, though they could care less, when the truth was she normally just sat in the park. She didn't want to be home, but she didn't want to go to school where the students didn't understand her. Either way, it was hell. Oregon would be no different, she assumed. Attend only the classes she enjoyed, like English, and stay in the dorm for the rest. The dorm was safe. Her eyes drifted to the pond beside her, the reflection of the moon danced on the water's calm surface. This was unsafe, for Vienna. What if her father was looking for her? What if he was close by? Her mind and heart raced. She was so absorbed in her panicking, she didn't hear the approaching footsteps.
Vienna's torso twisted back around quickly, her eyes still glistening in frustration, only to find a hand holding out the remaining books in front of her. He was squatting down, close to Vienna. Her eyes flickered up to his face, eyes wide. Automatically, she grasped the books and pulled them to her chest again. She was pressing them uncomfortably tight against her chest, but right now she didn't notice. Vienna's face turned hot in embarrassment and fear. She could still feel the single tear on her face, so she quickly looked down and wiped it. "I'm fine. Thanks." Vienna said, her voice monotone. She didn't mean to be so cold, it was just a natural reaction. She didn't trust anyone. Her slender figure shifted and quickly stood upright. At the moment, she wanted to leave. She was embarrassed and scared. The guy who had helped her saw her at one of her weakest moments, nobody normally saw her like this - so fragile. Vienna combed her fingers through her hair, slightly tangled by the fall. Though she didn't trust him, she was relieved and happy that it wasn't her father or some older whack-job. Still, her mind flashed back to what she learned in self-defense class. Don't run, it only makes them chase you. It was stupid to be so irrationally mistrustful - she knew that. But it was so hard to feel safe ever since the first day she was beaten in the safety of her home. So, she stood, trying to look tall. Though it was hard - he was a lot taller than her. Vienna turned the corners of her lips up into a small smile, trying to be friendly and strong; not the girl who ran away. She paused for a moment. Now what? Stand here like some lost and clueless doll? Part of her wanted to stay with him, the handsome stranger. His concern, though bordering on flirtatious, was a little comforting. Vienna pursed her lips. She felt a little safer. Because she wasn't alone? Maybe. It was very unusual for her to feel safe with a stranger. Her mind raced and she struggled internally, but she knew what the rational decision was. Slowly, trying not to seem urgent or scared, she stepped around him and began to walk back to the dorms.
