YOU'RE LOSING EVERY ONE
THAT YOU LOVE
The worst part about this place? Being noticed. And it was seemingly impossible to go unseen - everybody in this damn school saw everything, heard every word, and watched all your moves. There was no escaping the lingering eye of the staff or the judging thoughts running through the other student’s minds. But so far, Tatum had been virtually invisible to everybody around her - much to her liking. The last the little brunette wanted was to be spotted, called out, and definitely not approached. Tatum was perfectly fine living in her own world and creating her own reality; which consisted of two friends, her laptop, and her ipod. She needed nothing more, but could likely survive with much less. Venturing down the halls everyday was simply terrifying for her and she avoided eye contact at all costs. However, as soon as anybody locked their eyes on hers she would turn into a complete toy who was at their disposal. Being intimidated by almost everybody certainly had it’s disadvantages. So it was as if this was her own private hell in which she couldn’t escape and then other times it wasn’t so bad. As for today, she had gone unseen and didn’t speak a single word in any of her classes - otherwise successful.
So now as the sun blanketed the world in warmth and light, Tatum found refuge in sitting by the pond. Nobody ever thought to spend any quiet time in these parts so it was perfect for her. The sound of the water rippling across a few rocks was enough to ease the brunette’s frazzled mind as she took the time to calm down. The greenery which sprouted around her was a welcome sight in comparison to barren white walls that she was enclosed in for a majority of the day. The heat, oh the heat, it made her feel alive - it let her know that she could still feel the world around her. For so long she had been feeling completely numb and still was to an extent. While she was feeling the physical world, Tatum had been dead to her emotions, aside from terror, ever since she witnessed her mother’s murder. It was no secret that she was severely traumatized from the event and the other kids were quick to point this out. Most of the time though nobody cared enough to even realize she was walking the earth. No wonder she’d rather spend her time alone. Her life consisted of either constant ridicule or barely existing at all, there was no in between. It was moments like this, quiet and alone by the pond, that she treasured the most.
The breeze caused her long, dark hair to wave away from her face. Her dark eyes scanning the greenery around her, as if she were paranoid that somebody was lurking. Tatum had kicked her flip flops to the side, letting her bare feet enjoy the feeling of the grass beneath them. Her flesh warmed to the touch as the sun draped over her exposed legs and arms. Everything was exactly as she wanted it. A few birds sang in unison in the background and the sound of the water continued to work it’s soothing magic. Tatum allowed her eyelids to flutter to a close for a few brief moments, allowing her mind to drink in her surroundings. She hadn’t felt this comfortable in a long. Surprisingly, she would likely be just as open and relaxed as she was even if some students were lingering nearby. Or maybe she just wanted to think she would be - really she knew that her heart would be racing a million miles a minute. But it was a night thought, right? Yes. Besides thoughts were the only thing she left in this miserable world of her, so why not make them pleasant ones? Gosh, if only she could keep them pleasant for longer than a minute. That would truly be a miracle
