We are human, mortal; we face the calling and gentle tugging of death, it is
inescapable. Perhaps one day as science grows we will be able to avoid dying,
preserve youth while still preserving function. Perhaps one day as science grows
we will recognize the threat that has reared its ugly face. They walk among is,
they always have, pretending so perfectly that the frozen hearts in their chests
beat the same as ours. Perhaps one day the threat that their honest to god
existence poses upon our race will be acknowledged by that growing world of
science. What has been so long fiction is truly fact; those fears which ignited the
skepticism of our safety while the sun would descend into the western sky have
been true since the dawn of man.
The Mayans predicted the end of the world and as our doomsday approached,
more and more skeptics believed. We had imagined too many things, and how was
it that at the same time we never imagined enough of the right things? Death,
destruction, disaster, disease, devastation, desolation, damage, despair… but
never did we think that our doomsday would not include those things. Never had
we imagined that doomsday was not the day that the world would end, obliterating
all of human kind and everything on planet earth. We had never imagined that
doomsday meant that their world would seep into ours, that they would soon
control our world through our mortal fear. They did not die, we did not die, but we
were exposed to the razor sharp teeth of the only real monsters out there.
Vampires. Our eyes see them, our camera’s capture them… we know they are
here. And still our science denies them. We are human, mortals, we face the
calling and gentle tugging of death and it is inescapable. The science we trust to
keep us alive is the instigator in allowing our greatest predator to sink its teeth
into our civilization.
