well this is going to be an interesting day. that was alex's first thought when he sat down at his small desk that morning. on his desk was a student's file, victoria madilyn metcalf. she was what they considered a psychopath. and flipping through her file he had to agree that she seemed pretty messed up, but then weren't all the kids here like that? then alex had spotted the sticky note stuck to her file, he pulled it off. it read personal counselor. he sighed, that meant he had been assigned to her and it was his job to help her come back to what some of the other counselors called the "real world." he ran his fingers through his terminally messy hair and rested his hand on his chin for a minute. he wondered what a good approach would be for her.
well he knew for one thing he wasn't going to use the pa system to call her to his "office." not that it was really an office it was practically a cupboard with a desk and two chairs crammed in. instead he closed up victoria's file and got to his feet. pushing his way out of his cupboard he walked past a few of his co-workers and out into the halls. it was a saturday but he had come in because it was his job and as a counselor at a school for what most people considered crazy kids him being there everyday was a good idea.
in reality he wasn't much older than a few of the students here, he was only twenty one. he had got the job because this school was pretty desperate for counselors and he had wanted the job. he felt that if he could change just one of these kids around he would have made a difference in the world. he knew that sounded like bull shit but he really believed it. he knew how people could be if an adult gave them a chance to change. hell if he hadn't had amazing foster parents he probably would have ended up here himself.
still wondering how he was going to find victoria and talk to her, alex wandered down the halls towards the door to the courtyard. he figured that if he were a student and he would have a chance he would get outside, away from the classrooms and offices, so he pushed the doors open and stepped outside. it was nice out, around 23 degrees celsius with just a light breeze. surprisingly there weren't many of the students outside. alex sighed, walked out into the sunlight and crossed his arms in frustration. how the hell was he going to find her without using that damn pa system?

victoria's mind seemed to be off track, as per her usual phases. she lived moment to moment, in her own world, rarely stopping time to take a look at where she was, who was trying to converse with her, or what was happening. the outside no longer mattered. she'd been labeled as a psycho, and it wouldn't change. there was no use in trying to change her label, as did, victoria could care less. she was, however, not looking forward to seeing whom she'd been assigned to for a 'personal counselour.' the teachers were a bit douche-y around the campus, always trying to help kids be all they could be. where were they? fucking rotc. no, they were practically institunialized. infact, they were basically the institutions rejects. her messy hair was down, and the breeze she was walking against pushed it out of her face. her ipod's earbuds were buried deep into her ears, beating against her eardrums repressive against any other outside noise, as she walked towards her dorm. she hated school, and the way people looked at you, and judged you, and whispered nonchalantly behind your back, as if you couldn't hear, or were too uneducated to guess. she put her head down, avoiding eye contact, and continued on until she ran into someone. "shit!" she burst out, quite on accident, and then realized it was not a student, but a newly acquired teacher. one earbud detatched from her eardrum, whilest the other refused to budge, as atreyu played on. "i-i..." she blushed, and stuttered, never having cussed, nor talked really infront of anyone at school, "i meant, i'm sorry" she finall spit out, looking around a bit, as the crimson blush crept up her neck, and down her face. could she just walk away? no, that was rude. did she want to? hell yes. victoria fidgeted a bit with her plaid over shirt, her black camisole slipping down, even after she violently yanked it back up, and pleaded with it, in her mind for it to stay in place. her jeans felt uncomfortable, but then again, so did her skin. she wanted to just retrace the last five seconds and restart, if she possibly could. it wasn't possible though, and she was left to stare at her black, graffiti ridden shoes, she'd taken to drawing, and doodling on time and time again. finally, she looked back up, "are you a new teacher?" she asked, quietly, her eyes meeting his, but squinting a tad because of the sun. she would start a conversation if it meant at all, delaying the inevitable - getting sought out by her 'personal counselour.'

of course someone walking into him was inevitable, after all it wasn't like he was standing off to the side, practically the opposite. it was almost like he had been asking someone to walk into him. and yet it was still a surprise to alex when she crashed into him and muttered "shit." alex suppressed a smile and instead looked at her curiously. she looked vaguely like victoria from the small and badly taken photo attached to her file but he couldn't be certain. a blush began creeping up her cheeks as she stumbled over an apology, "i-i... i meant, i'm sorry." she finally spat.
alex shook his head, "it's not your fault, i was kind of in the way." he smiled at her and stuck his hands in his pocket. he figured if he introduced himself to her she would also introduce herself, therefore telling him if she was in fact victoria metcalf. he opened his mouth to say something but stopped when she began to speak.
"are you a new teacher?' she asked, practically whispering as she looked up and met his eyes. he could tell she was nervous, and who wouldn't be nervous being stuck in this hellhole of a school? it was full of kids who were locked up for one reason or other, some were thieves, some killers, some were just crazy, but everyone was here for something. that would make him nervous too, hell it made him nervous to work here, but he had needed the job so here he was.
"uh, i'm not really a teacher," he explained and ran one of his hands through his messy hair. "i'm a new couselor." he added shrugging like it was nothing. he guessed that like all the other students here this girl, possibly victoria, wouldn't take that too well. no one here liked counselors and he really didn't blame them, half of his co-workers didn't give a shit what happened to the kids, the others were annoyingly cheerful, and that would piss him off too. "i'm alex hunt," he said sticking his hand out for her to shake, "and you are?" he asked hoping that it was victoria. that would make his job a hell of a lot easier.
